Curious Listeners
Overview
Curious listeners have found something in your content that has sparked their interest.
They have taken a step out of the Cold stage and are now interested in finding a little more out about what you do.
In the online world, your Curious audience is made up of most of your followers on social media.
They have taken the first step to stay connected (through an avenue that required a low threshold of commitment, such as liking or following your page) and are here to consider staying around long term.
In the real world, your Curious audience is made up of those that have been exposed to your brand before, but are now looking for a reason to want to stay around long term.
Curious listeners appear after a Cold listener has found something that has interested them.
The higher the quality is of the access point the Cold listener comes from, the less convincing the listener will need to transition to Curious stage and the quicker they will end up moving.
Behavioural Traits
Curious listeners, while worlds ahead of their days of Cold, are still considered to be generally uncommitted overall.
They haven’t yet found a solid reason to be won over and become a fan of yours, they’ve just found a reason to become interested.
They cannot be forced to complete an action of a high or medium commitment threshold, they will only respond to offers that require less commitment than they have interest.
Something has caught their interest.
In this moment, you have their attention.
Whether you end up convincing them to transition to the next stage and become a fan of yours completely depends on how you nurture this interest while it’s in its infancy.
Curious listeners are interested, but they will quickly fall off if you don’t add fuel to their fire.
Conversions
Brand Awareness
Low-Level Conversions
Medium-Level Conversions
High-Level Conversions
Brand awareness is advertising without asking anything in return. LLCs are a small request (‘listen to my new song!’). MLCs are a medium request (‘buy this cheap thing!’). HLCs are a high request (‘buy the vip package!’).
Curious listeners will not respond to medium or high-level conversion strategies, no matter how hard you try.
There is no chance that someone who is only slightly interested in your music will want to make a big purchase, so HLCs should not be attempted.
And as they have yet to build a real interest in your music, there is little chance that they’d want to make any type of purchase, no matter how affordable it may be, so MLCs should not be attempted.
Curious listeners will only usually respond to requests for actions of a low threshold of commitment, like you asking for them to listen to your latest song, watch your latest music video or follow you on Twitter.
They have yet to build a real reason to want to support you, so LLCs should be the only conversion strategy attempted.
My Audience Is Curious

You should also be focusing on brand awareness strategies to build your Cold audience as well.
How to Transition Them
Curious listeners are in a time-sensitive phase.
It is in this stage that you must find a way to build upon their interest before they lose it and decide to move on.
To transition a Curious listener to Converted, you will need to provide them with content that aligns with what originally interested them in the first place.
This type of content is found after referring to analytics data.
The trick here is to not over-saturate your content with the one type of content.
These listeners may now be Curious because of you talking about your Motivation, but they might also need another reason (or two) before they’re prepared to take that leap of becoming a Converted listener that you have won over.
This is why you should always refer to your analytics and scale your second and third highest performing type of post as well, to provide content that convinces.
Also, you should assess your three highest performing types of post and think of how you can dive deeper and provide more powerful versions of that type of content.
For example, if you gave a rough outline of your Story and it resulted in Curious listeners, create content that dives deep into where you came from and really shows off your scars — it’s clear your audience wants more of it, so give them the most powerful version.
This will ensure that people jump on board for the long term.
