So many music artists still think that a label will simply stumble across their music one day in a miraculous and serendipitous occurrence and be so blown away that they want to drop everything and make every single one of the artist’s music dreams come true.

Especially not in today’s industry. The market is entirely oversaturated by music artists that are all fighting for the same attention. Meanwhile, as technology becomes more affordable and accessible, labels are becoming less and less powerful.

To think that you need a record label to succeed in this day and age is simply not true. Sure, some labels can provide you with the manpower you need to take your music to the next level–but this same thing could be achieved by a team that you build.

Building your own team around you allows you to scale at your own pace, stay in control of your overall direction and retain the money that you earn.

Labels are desperate. It will only take you two seconds to see this if you read the contracts they are trying to get people to sign (some deals are upwards of 80/20 splits–with the label taking 80% and the artist being left with the scraps).

To survive in the new music industry, you need to be your own record label. This allows you to stay in control of one of the most important things: your future and the direction you move.

Now, luckily, being your own record label is not a difficult thing to do in this day and age. Truth be told, we’ve never lived in a better time to get music heard. The internet provides us with an almost limitless power that can be harnessed to bring anything you’ve ever wanted. All you have to do is put the work in.

So, the question is;

Are you going to spend your life waiting for a weakened record label to come and take what is rightfully yours?

Or are you ready to make big things happen for your music?
